Learning at Work Week 2026
Published On: 19 May 2026|3.4 min read|

At Gas Mark 1 Herts Bathrooms & Kitchens, Learning at Work Week is more than a campaign — it reflects how we operate all year round.

Learning at Work Week is a great reminder of how important continuous development is in maintaining high standards, improving customer experience, and supporting long-term growth within the home improvement industry.

As the industry evolves, so do design trends, materials, and installation techniques. Staying up to date ensures we continue to deliver high-quality results and a professional service to every customer.

At Gas Mark 1, Herts Bathrooms & Kitchens, learning and development are part of our everyday culture. Whether it’s gas installations, bathroom renovations, kitchen installations, or fitted bedroom projects, our team is constantly building knowledge and improving skills to deliver the best possible service across Hertfordshire.

The Importance of Continuous Development

Learning in the workplace is not limited to formal training. It is embedded in daily operations and includes:

  • Sharing knowledge across the team
  • Learning from completed projects and on-site experience
  • Keeping up to date with new products and installation methods
  • Improving customer service and communication
  • Strengthening health, safety, and compliance standards
  • Staying current with design trends and customer expectations

These ongoing improvements all contribute to better workmanship, smoother project delivery, and higher customer satisfaction.

Investing in the Next Generation

We are proud to run a successful apprenticeship programme supporting between 8–10 young people on a day-release scheme, with their learning supported at West Herts College.

This programme gives apprentices hands-on experience alongside structured learning, helping them develop practical skills, industry knowledge, and confidence. It plays an important role in building the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Professional Development Across the Team

We are also committed to supporting the continued development of our existing team through ongoing training and qualifications.

In the last year, we have achieved several key milestones:

  • In March, our gas engineer Taylor achieved the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, strengthening our compliance and safety standards at CDC Group in Hemel Hempstead
  • All our gas engineers undergo retraining every 5 years to ensure they remain fully up to date with industry regulations, safety standards, and technical updates within the gas industry, we work closely with Gas Safe Register to keep everyone in the loop
  • Last year, office administrator Alison Meredith completed a Level 2 qualification in Digital Marketing, enhancing our marketing capability and digital presence
  • This month, yard operative Jordan completed training on the PE60 baling press, improving operational efficiency and site safety
  • We worked with Michael Treacy of Buteline Plumbing & Heating System – UK to deliver training for our engineers, ensuring best practice installation standards and resulting in their Certificate of Competence with the Buteline plumbing system
  • Senior engineers Rhys and Jamie attended a Stuart Turner Limited training day covering mains boosting and shower pump systems, further enhancing technical expertise

These achievements reflect our commitment to investing in our people and supporting career development across all areas of the business.

Adapting to Changing Customer Expectations

Today’s customers are more informed and design-aware than ever before. They expect stylish, practical, and long-lasting solutions that add real value to their homes.

To meet these expectations, we must continue to learn and adapt. Whether it’s fitted wardrobes, modern kitchen designs, or innovative bathroom solutions, ongoing development ensures we remain competitive and consistently deliver excellent results.

Why Learning Benefits Everyone

Investing in learning and development benefits the entire business:

  • Teams become more confident and skilled
  • Projects are completed more efficiently
  • Customers receive better advice and service
  • Quality and consistency improve
  • Businesses build stronger reputations and trust

In an industry built around working in people’s homes, professionalism and continuous improvement are essential.

Looking Ahead

As the home improvement sector continues to evolve, learning will remain at the heart of everything we do.

Learning at Work Week is a valuable opportunity to recognise the importance of growth, development, and teamwork — not just for this week, but every week of the year.

We’d love to hear how other businesses in the industry are supporting learning and development.
